I just love the title of this film--it sounds beautiful in Spanish and English. When I saw this movie last year, I was pregnant with my son, and I think I cried at least 10 times.Straightforwardly, Under the Same Moon tells the story of a little boy who crosses the Mexican border to find his mother, who in order to make a better life for her son, is working illegally in the United States.
But what this movie really does is a put a sweet, accessible face on the US-Mexico border issue. It's not in-your-face political, not a documentary. It's a beautiful and funny and heartbreaking testimony to the love that exists between a parent and child, and how far you will go to ensure your child's well-being. And in doing so, it also makes you question why we have such stringent border laws, why the relationship between our two countries is so strained.
In California this is a hot hot hot topic. And this film is a great way to start a conversation.
Do you have an opinion?
